Our Origin Story
Since 1954, Keck + Wood has led a tradition of engineering excellence established by our founders, Wylly Keck and Tom Wood, and driven by our commitment to serving communities. Our range of services, and our footprint, has grown steadily as a direct result. Over the decades, Keck + Wood has evolved from a small civil engineering firm in Duluth, Georgia, into a regional, full-service infrastructure practice serving the Southeastern U.S. across Georgia and South Carolina.
Every stage of our growth has been a direct result of our commitment to our clients and the communities they serve. Beginning as a civil engineering practice, a majority of our work to date has focused on water and wastewater engineering. As our clients’ needs have evolved, we’ve risen to meet every challenge they face, expanding our services and scaling strategically along the way.
This client-driven approach has fostered lasting relationships built on trust, reliability, and exceptional engineering design.
Growing with Our Clients
Shortly after our founding in the 1950s, Keck + Wood established a transportation practice to complement our civil engineering work. Subsequent decades brought further expansion, and Keck + Wood has helped shape the infrastructure landscape of the Atlanta metro—both above-ground and subsurface—through periods of major population growth. Serving communities including Gainesville, Cordele, and Dublin, as well as institutional partners such as the Georgia Institute of Technology, we expanded our services, our footprint, and our reputation for outstanding work.
By 1979, our transportation practice expanded to serve the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and later played a key role in developing the tunnel system of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).
Our acquisition of Gray Engineering in 1986 broadened our utility engineering capabilities to include natural gas. We acquired Middle Georgia Mapping, now our Macon branch office, and Williams Engineering in Rock Hill, South Carolina, continuously adding new staff, new areas of practice, and greater geographic coverage.
The Keck + Wood of Today
Now with a footprint spanning Georgia and South Carolina, our engineers, landscape architects, and planners use the latest technology to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions to more than 150 local governments across the Southeastern U.S. As a full-service firm, we offer a comprehensive approach, still rooted in our original dedication to client-focused solutions.
Keck + Wood’s team of 100+ employees is driven to advance the industry through thought leadership and sharing innovations with others. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach, and we’re constantly striving to improve ourselves, our colleagues, and the communities we serve.
We’re a close-knit community focused on constant improvement. We celebrate our team members in a vibrant, diverse company culture through events and recognition inside and outside the office. We’ve seen firsthand how genuine care carries through employee retention and better project delivery.

The Clients + Communities We Serve
As engineers, planners, surveyors, and professionals, we’re collaborative by design, offering practical, innovative solutions for essential community infrastructure. Our goal is simple: to improve the quality of life for residents throughout the region. We start with the impact on the communities we serve, some of which have been valued partners for 70+ years. These relationships reflect our relentless standards in ethics and engineering. They also shape our long-term understanding of how communities operate, and where we fit in.
We don’t just work for our communities; we participate and reinvest in them. Keck + Wood sponsors community events and charitable organizations, and our team members volunteer regularly.
