The Villa Rica Bypass (GDOT PI No. 631490) is a three-mile, two-lane bypass around the north and east side of the City of Villa Rica, GA. The project also includes two miles of crossing roadway improvements, two of which are on state routes, with both intersections requiring roundabouts. These roundabouts were proposed to alleviate safety concerns at the intersections. Due to the new bypass being located on an oversize/overweight (OSOW) truck route, both hybrid roundabouts were designed to accommodate these types of vehicles. In addition, both roundabouts were designed to allow for future bypass lanes to accommodate higher traffic volumes without requiring major reconstruction efforts. The City funded the engineering design, while the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) funded the cost of right-of-way acquisition and construction, which included 87 parcels impacted by the project. Keck + Wood’s services included  a Preliminary Engineering Study (PES), roadway design, utility coordination, lighting, construction support, environmental permitting, pavement type selection report, surveying and a soil survey.
