Jess Norman Way Culvert, Doraville, GA

The Jess Norman Way Culvert Replacement project consisted of replacing a heavily deteriorated corrugated metal pipe which had led to major sinkhole formations which threatened the structural integrity of an adjacent restaurant and a retaining wall supporting Jess Norman Way. The challenging part of this project was that the existing pipe was over 20’ deep and traveled underneath the retaining and between steel H-pile footers. KW prepared a plan to replace the deteriorated pipe with new reinforced concrete pipe. This required researching historical GDOT construction drawings to learn the existing conditions of the retaining wall. Excavation and removal of existing culvert, grading, removal and replacement of existing road, erosion control, stream diversion, streambank improvements, culvert construction, guardrail removal and replacement, traffic controls, erosion control, and other associated work.
