The Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grant program through the Atlanta Regional Commission incentivizes local jurisdictions to envision their communities as vibrant and walkable communities with increased mobility options and providing improved access to jobs and services. Typical LCI studies include analysis of land use (zoning and future land use, transportation elements (sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, alternate modes of transportation, electric vehicle charging) along with real estate and economic development market studies and public engagement.
Keck + Wood has collaborated with a number of jurisdictions on implementation programs for LCI plans that include application assistance, grant funding identification, transportation inventories, recommendations and action plans as well as overall major updates to LCI Studies. Results of the studies created general transportation policies including complete streets approaches, inter-parcel connectivity requirements, vehicular transportation policies that promoted shared parking arrangements as well as identifying new regional transportation improvements along with streetscape projects.
Beyond the general transportation and vehicle policies, non-motorized transportation projects have also been identified to improve sidewalks and trails accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists living, working or going to school in an identified area.
