Ph 1 consisted of 0.5 miles of concrete multi-use trail, including sections of wooden boardwalk and an asphalt parking lot at the trailhead.  Services included conceptual design, construction plans, bidding, construction admin, and trail map sign design.  A key component of the trail design was incorporating existing stormwater infrastructure so the trail and adjacent stream were not adversely affected.  This project is the first phase of a multi-phase trail network that will connect various areas throughout the City.

Ph 2 will expand the City’s trail network, with connections to local businesses and to provide pedestrians with a safe crossing over Buford Hwy (SR 13). The north end of the trail is located near restaurants, businesses, and the Buford Community Center, Town Park, and Theater. The City recently constructed Ph 1, which starts at New St near the City’s downtown, runs through the Buford Nature Preserve, and ties into the existing sidewalks on Garnett St, which continues to Buford Hwy, where the bridge is proposed. The proposed pedestrian bridge over Buford Hwy will add safe connectivity to these City features. The south end of the trail will tie into existing sidewalks along Old SR 20, located near existing restaurants and businesses. A parking lot is proposed on the south end of the trail for a trail head. The distance between these two ends will be 1.75 miles of multi-use trail running through the woods and along Suwanee Creek. This trail segment is considered an integral connection for the City, to ultimately connect to the Gwinnett County Trail System.
